Having navigated my own journey of long-term recovery from substances for 31 years, I bring a unique perspective to drug prevention education. Drawing from personal experiences, I am able to connect with students in an age-appropriate manner, effectively conveying the risks of underage drug use. By combining current research-based information with my own story, I enhance the validity of my presentations, fostering a deeper understanding of the consequences of substance misuse.
In today's schools, alcohol and drug abuse pose significant challenges, with students increasingly turning to these substances as coping mechanisms amidst rising levels of stress. The pressures of peer influence, social media, and societal expectations further exacerbate the issue. Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic has heightened the risks, leading to a surge in opioid misuse and unintended deaths. Despite the prevalence of these issues, many drug education programs remain limited in scope, often relying on scare tactics or focusing solely on alcohol education.
As a drug prevention educator, I am committed to challenging perceptions and dispelling myths across a spectrum of drugs, including opioids, fentanyl, electronic cigarettes, marijuana, study drugs, and prescription drug misuse. Rather than resorting to technical medical jargon or scare tactics, I employ a holistic approach that incorporates real-world scenarios, facts, and culturally relevant media. Through engaging presentations, I empower students to critically evaluate their perceptions and make informed, healthy decisions regarding substance use.
Whether you're seeking personalized drug prevention education, guidance on strengthening parent-teen relationships, or assistance with navigating teenage substance misuse, I am here to support you.
